November 19th 2003 at 19:10PM CST Dear RC4Crypt Users, This notice only applies to users who have not yet upgraded the sources to RC4Crypt 2.0 I'm writing this public notice after receiving a plethora of emails exclaiming discontent over the recent licensing problems of the RC4Crypt class, which users apparently mistook to be licensed under the GNU GPL. I acknowledge that releasing RC4Crypt was an effort to contribute to the Open Source community, but please be aware that this algorithm is a trademark of RSA Data Security Inc. The sources I released about 2 years ago, did not contain any Copyright notices except for a comment indicating the author, and date of being last updated. This perhaps caused the confusion, of it being mistaken for a GPL'd package. Nevertheless that is past and has gone. But to be in compliance with Intellectual Property Law's in the United States of America, anyone who currently uses the RC4Crypt class MUST update their sources to reflect the correct Copyright notices. The majority of the users of this class are individuals who have been contacted, the other major usage has been found to be in variants of the PHPNuke application suite, particularly in the WebMail module the application uses. At time of writing this notice, authorities of both these packages/applications had acknowledged it's existence, and agreed to do the needful to be in compliance with IP Laws. The new packages can be obtained from http://www.devhome.org/php/scripts/rc4crypt.html by clicking the download link. Best Regards, Mukul Sabharwal --------------- mukul _at_ PAURIDGE [dot] ORG
